The Running Dream

Wendelin Van Draanen

⭐⭐⭐⭐
Contemporary YA read with a dash of romance

Jessica's  dreams, aspirations, and friendships are all impacted by the accident and the aftermath of what happens to her as she loses her leg.  Great cast of characters, family, friends, acquaintances, coaches, teammates, and therapists.  The leg itself is a character in a way.

Beautifully drawn portrait of a young woman overcoming the despair and hopelessness after her dreams are shattered, and the new path that opens up for her as she takes steps towards a new future.  W.V.D gets the subtleties of human interactions, worries, concerns, and the moments that take your breath away.  Perfect YA read, with just the right mix of friends, family, and romance.
