"Solving Sophronia" Jennifer Moore

Image
Solving Sophronia Jennifer Moore GoodReads review ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Romance/Mystery, period, clean; Series, but stand alone read; Sophie and her friends are tired of women not being treated as capable, strong, intelligent, etc. They form a society of friends with pins, inspired by a group of cavalier gentlemen are wearing to promote their intellectual curiosity, success, and endeavors as women, fighting the norms and restrictions that society has imposed on them, and encouraging each other to reach their dreams and live them, forming the Blue Orchid Society. Sophie and Detective Graham were honest, hurting hearts with pasts and presents that seem to keep them from each other. Gorgeous, and well done in terms of the setting, the gradual denouement in order to find the killer, their peace, each other, and both of their tender hearts. Murder mystery side-story that was compelling and heartfelt read. The crime was particularly fascinating, particularly how it was solved both by

"Carolina Breeze" by Denise Hunter

Carolina Breeze Denise Hunter GoodReads Review ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Romance, clean, contemporary; Christian faith elements; Series but stand alone read Mia and Levi's story was so well done. Hurting hearts, worries, every day moments, a dash of mystery, and lots of sweet attraction along with a dash of faith. Strong characters, well-drawn side characters, and also a cast of characters from the first book made for a lovely, sweet romance, with a bit of drama from Mia's notoriety. Gorgeous setting at the Inn, near the water and mountains, and of course, lots of small town charm. Loved the ending with the how things were put back together (not going into detail, don't want to spoil it). Family, the strength of it, and all the learning and character growth that comes from inter familial, and inter personal interactions. D.H. has become an author who gets the everyday moments, the worries, cares, concerns, things that display character, build affection, show longing, and of

In order to keep her cousin's wedding plans secret, she pretends she is the bride planning her wedding in Heart's Landing. The town's wedding venues and businesses are always looking for a "True" Heart's Landing Bride. "The Earl's Betrothal" by Karen Tuft

Image
The Earl's Betrothal Karen Tuft GoodReads review ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Romance, clean, period; some descriptions of war, and crime so PG-13 Amelia and Anthony's story was even better on a second read. Interesting back story with Anthony almost being a casualty of war, and thought dead, and Amelia being an orphan, and a companion to his mother. Their attraction gradually building with Amelia's way of helping others, speaking her mind, diplomatically, and with care for her circumstances, and the Earl's broken spirit, suffering from the war and flashbacks, his tiredness for machinations and women after his name and title, and not himself. Amelia's kind, genuine nature, her beauty along with her intelligence without cruelty, and her perceptive nature with regard to Lord Hargreaves flashbacks and war memories, along with lack of sleep while trying to fulfill his duty (in so many myriad ways) made for a compelling story. The side stories, both of their families,

Throwback Thursday, "The Thirteenth Chance" by Amy Matayo

The Thirteenth Chance Amy Matayo GoodReads review ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Romance, clean, contemporary; This was a fun, cute, sweet romance. Will has had a disaster of a season with relationships, and with baseball. More of a ladies man, and loving his parties, he and Olivia, a school teacher, don't see eye to eye as neighbors. Through a quirky circumstances, Will gets Olivia to come to a game, and also has her pretend to be his girlfriend. When he wins the game, and with her liked by management and his friends, she becomes his good luck charm. When she is there, he seems to bring his a-game and be at his best on the field. While he doesn't think they are a perfect fit, her sincerity, charm, and good looks, warm his way into his heart until he can't seem to think how he can play, and live without her. She is warmed over to Will too, as he adjusts to being 'normal', and getting his HEA in an unexpected way. A winning combination, with chemistry, humor, and sweet

"Where the Stars Meet the Sea" by Heidi Kimball

Where the Stars Meet the Sea by Heidi Kimball Goodreads Review ⭐⭐⭐⭐  Romance, clean, period;  Juliet's story, and her romance with the Duke of Halstead, was a lovely, period romance.  As she stumbles in several encounters with the Duke, mainly as she seeks to escape notice of her overbearing, unkind Aunt, making mistakes with him, but with her genuine nature, and forthright manner open his heart to a chance of a future.  The moments were sweet, funny at times, and even as she questions the outcomes and worries, you can see his heart opening to her.  Some of the side characters were caricatures, a bit over done in some ways.  The conflict with her Aunt, pushing her cousin's suit and holding her brother's future over her as she tries to control how Juliet acts, and interacts with others made for a good contrast with Halstead's subtle observations and interactions.  Halstead's family, his mother, grandmother and sister and the conflicts and contrasts th

"Rakes and Roses" Josi S. Kilpack

Rakes and Roses Mayfield Family Book 3  Josi S. Kilpack Proper Romance GoodReads Review     ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Romance, clean, period; series, but stand alone read I think this is my favorite of all of this series. I know some readers may fault Harry's strength as a character, but I loved it! I loved how he was brought to his knees, how Lord Damion plays a part, and Lady Sabrina. Loved all the staff, the mystery surrounding Lord Damion and Harry's creditors.  Saving Harry, Harry's recovery, and his rebirth as a new 'man', able to overcome his weaknesses, the person responsible for betraying him, so many twists and turns, but Lady Sabrina's tough love, kind care, and her growing feelings for this reborn man who softens her heart towards gentleman again (does she need a man?) as he values her for her and for herself, without guile, repairing her hurt heart and helping her 'live' again without fear, reprisals, and with hope for a fut
